I've been tooling around doing a couple of small practice games with some new eldar and sisters. I still have my old chaos and guard armies sitting in the cabinet.

Is there a guide on base size? I'm sure the old 'the base it came with' no longer flies since the sizes have changed, and i'm guessing I have to find a way to change the base size of my old armies, but I have no idea what models would now belong on what size of base.

How did I not find this earlier? A fan made adaptation of the objectively best edition 5th ed (sarcasm, but not) sexing it up a bit with more modern rules and codexes. If and when I get the chance to play 40k again it's going to be this version! (Not a fan at all of all the book keeping and turn-to-turn limited abilities, stratagems etc you need to track in 9th ed)

I used to use Army builder for my 40k & Fantasy army building but it could get quite unwieldy. Are there any good apps of this type floating around? Is AB still good (I registered). Free would be good but not essential. Also for warhahordes if known. Thanks in advance.

Finished reading Godblight lst week and it poses some interesting questions about where 40k is going to go.

The main one is that thanks to the Great Rift, the Emperor's psychic might has been amplified along with that of the psychic awakening of humanity. He is actively working from within the Warp to help humanity now. To the point where He razed a hefty chunk of Nurgle's Garden. So he definitely has grown in power.

It seems like He knows about Guilliman's betrayal in creating Imperium Secundus during the Heresy too, but doesn't care.

Guilliman got smashed by Mortarion. But I'm not sure if he deliberately lost or not. It's possibly he lost on purpose due to what the farseer had seen and advised.

Mortarion has been defeated and Nurgle is NOT happy with him. Might not see him active for a while now, although the brief interaction between Mortarion and the Emperor may imply that he could be redeemed at some point in the future.

So. I read Penitent by Dan Abnett a little while ago and boy oh boy are there some juicy bits!

So a smaller spoiler is that there's a Blood Angel character that has feathered wings. Which poses interesting questions for the possible resurrection of Sanguinius. Well, it does for me 😛 But the Yellow King obviously has access to create marines.

Second, and the biggest reveal right at the end, Constantine Valdor is alive and kicking...and is the Yellow King. Not only kicking, but creating a massive army and fleet in a pocket dimension (possibly in the webway like Commorragh). He also has a massive amount of clones of pariahs, which he's been using as weapons. There's been a few theories I've seen as to what his true purpose is. As the Yellow King, he's been searching for the true name of the Emperor. This could be to destroy the Emperor...or it could be to resurrect / heal the Emperor.

Either way, the final book in the Bequin trilogy is going to be interesting to see how it develops and pans out!

Trying to work out which army to start with, based on aesthetics I'm most interested in the Tau and Space Marines, though Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus are close behind. Any friendly advice or commentary on who might be easier to start with, that's not super focused on the meta side of things, would be greatly appreciated.

So, with the repackaging of models for 9th ed, some new stats have been seen in the wild for Terminators and Veterans. Terminators appear to now be 3 wounds and Veterans 2 wounds (instead of 2 and 1 respectively). I'd wager that all old marines are getting the +1 wound boost. Which is an interesting change. I imagine Chaos marines would be getting a similar buff when their codex is redone.

The terminator heavy flamer is also getting a range buff to 12", which I suspect will happen to other flamer weapons. Or it might be reserved for the bigger / heavier flame weapons.

What do you guys think about these changes? Makes marines more durable, old marines will be a more viable choice. If that's the case, it certainly makes me wonder if GW actually are going to phase out the older style marines after all.

My mate and I miss the old template weapons. There was something enjoyable and tangible about being able to scatter shots, compared to this DX attacks then roll to hit these days. [not that I've actually played 8e...] I'm trying to think of how we'll bring back templates for our games. One thought I had was using the flamer template, and blast templates with scatter, like 5e, but instead of counting hits on a per-model basis, using the new DX rules instead. So if a grenade launcher was fired at a squad using the small blast template, then scattered so it would be covering one model in the traget unit and one model from another unit, then both units would take D6 automatic hits (or whatever the weapon profile is). Or a flamer would use the old teardrop, and whichever unit it touched would cop the D6 flamer hits.

Sounds like a workable half-way system, though I guess Earthshaker cannons would be a bit OP with their pie plate if they're doing 2D6 to units they hit... But then again it's just for funsies.

	Any thoughts?

I was surprised when I went looking in my assembly box that I still have a double handful of metal not-Soviets guardsmen models and two squads of stormtroopers I clean forgot about! Also have two flavours of 3rd party minis for guardsmen squads, 3 jeep model kit conversions half finished, an aerosan conversion on the go... Plenty to do before 9e drops!

So, GW put up a list of proposed *minimum* table sizes for 40k based on points limits. The main change is that instead of being 48" wide, the minimum is now 44" wide.

Apparently some people aren't coping with this change or the fact it's a minimum amount, so they can keep on using the old 48" tables / mats they have. I figured it's probably been done to make it easier to play on a dining table or something to make the game a bit more accessible to new players.

Is anyone concerned about the size change? If so, why? I'm curious as to the thinking.
