[Project 2021] Restoring Glory to the Kislev Empire!
Cmdr_Roy posted a topic in Painting / Modelling
So i thought i would participate in this little adventure that Krefey has organised (thanks and a great idea!). I did multiple army building diaries for several different systems over the years back when WAU was a thing (helped with the post count 😉 )but since then ive just bounced around systems and mostly posted stuff to a few Facebook groups. Will be nice to get some structure back and have a central spot to keep everything again. Onto the project itself, in early 2020 a mate was cleaning up his cupboards at home in a fit of gaming rationalization and dug out a box of old Warhammer Kislev models that he had accumulated over the years from eBay and second hand stalls locally. It was a project he was never going to get to and he asked our local group if anyone was interested. At the time we had been playing a bit of Warlords of Erehwon (Warlord Games, designed by Rick Priestly, d10 skirmish sized system) and my Dwarf army was feeling slow and sluggish. The idea of a more cavalry and light fast moving troop force had a certain appeal. I looks at the available army lists and came to the conclusion that the Kislev force on offer would slide nicely into the Knights army list. A bit of price checking and discussion of what was included and the deal was done! We met up for a coffee and cake at Brunetti's to exchange models and cash, plus a long chat about all things gaming. After getting the box home and sorting out all the parts and models i managed to arrange them all for a group photo (below) and start to consider what was going to be required. Clearly there was a lot of paint stripping required. There were insufficient bases and also a real mix of types due to the collection being accumulated from multiple different sellers, so that would have to be remedied. There were a few broken parts, mostly lances, and some models had clearly not been cleaned up before assembly or painting. So the task at hand was to pull everything apart, strip all the paint from the metals (plastic horses are a different problem) and then properly clean up and assemble again. Subsequent to the initial purchase i also snagged a Kislev engineer from eBay, some replacement plastic horses and extra mounted archers from Facebook and a pile of replacement bases from my bits box, mates and the local GW. -
Hey Lads, I've been engrossed by Dechala Lilac ever since it dropped and have been looking for any excuse to use it. Tried it with Tyranids; Then Dark Eldar; Neither seemed to suit. Finally settled on Craftworlds Eldar; Its a bear of a colour to use, takes about three layers to get a good opaque finish. Still experimenting with best process for the paintjob, also not certain about the gold/bronze. Keen for feedback from y'all
