So this is my current project...hobby time is basically non-existant currently!

It still counts as a model!

Just wondering if that area underneath is potentially useable as a games room.

My hobbying this month is another mix.

More tidying and sorting of stuff in the Shed of Holding. Painting some more ancient Egyptians, plus a mix of sci-fi figures for upcoming games. After that I need to start work on some zombie pirates for a big game in late October.

only with a lot of work levelling it out - we've built on a raised platform to account for the fact there is a 10-15 degree slope - the ground clearance ranges from 10cm to 3.2m

Work on the Hornet continues, and in hoping to get it done in the next few weeks (weather permitting). Additionally, I’m planning to paint up these nice terrain pieces (courtesy of our very own Big).

I've finished another 10 chaos warriors just before the beginning of the month (still have about 15 in progress).  Currently working on a whole heap of plaguebearers.

Also some chaos knights, but I really don't expect to get to them this month.

I am going to try and do up some newer mantic Ogres for Kings of War starting with a 750 point ambush force and growing to 2,300 point eventually. Maybe some 3d Print forces as well (with an Australiana type theme). cheers

** update 17/8/24 - added mugshot of the WIP Ogres (and 2 red Goblins). Mammoth is pre-painted but was rebased and I need todo a few tweaks but its a really nice model. Was also fixing some warmaster undead but will sell those so here is a mugshot of the boys. Busy month...

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm getting through the figures I had planned for August and September way faster than I would have expected.  I've spent the last 3 days putting together figures so as to have more of this army to work on.

I have a RAAF FA18 kit waiting to be done somewhere.  A 1:48 Hornet based on Operation Okra according to the box I just pulled out.  Yours is very crisp.

I’d like to see that done one day 😀.

Meanwhile…

They came together quite nicely.  Surprised by the colour choice on the tank, my brain can't think of anything more creative than silver with a black wash but the weathering has turned out amazing, especially on the barrels in the dugout.

I have been adding more ancient Egyptian court members. First up we see Pharaoh, a leading nobleman and a court scribe. As usual I still need to tidy around the eyes.

Catching the Pharaoh's attention is a group of musicians. Yes I need to fix up the eyes, but otherwise I am happy with how they turned out.

Shown in front is the object of the goblin geese's quest: Thoth's Feather of Judgement. Thoth is a god of wisdom, so has a decoy ready to trick would-be thieves.

My next big painting project is a game for the local club's open day in late October. The game is loosely based on the town raid in the movie 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and will use slightly modified Blood and Plunder rules.

I already have plenty of normal pirates, so I just need to add some townsfolk, garrison troops and undead pirates. To this end I bought some 3-d printed zombie pirates on eBay. The photos show the paint results on my first batch of zombies. I am using glowing red eyes for the undead, although this blends in with leather-coloured eye patches on a few models in the second photo. I am planning on doing 1 in 4 models with stripes, as that seems to be enough to produce the visual effect without too much extra work.

One batch of zombies a week for the next several weeks gets me enough for the big game. Next on the table is a batch of command figures: these will hopefully be shown next month.

The printed zombies are actually quite decent sculpts and the weapon arms are more resilient to handling damage than I expected. So far I have only pinged one weapon hand across the room during assembly. 🙂
