Jyggdrasil
A common-use topic for peeps to share their output, be it good or ill. To brag, too weep, to seek advice. Me? I got bored with trying to dial it in using calibration cubes, so I moved onto calibration dunnies 😉  They are in the order I printed them from left to right, and I reckon you can see the progress. Still far from perfect, but I am happy enough. By the end I was using a .5 nozzle and printing at 1.5mm layer height, a decent compromise of detail and speed and reliability. Anyway, I reckon I have enough dunnies. Time to try something else... Edited February 8, 2022 by Jyggdrasil
Jyggdrasil
And by something else, I mean wells. Again, not perfect, but within my tolerances. OK, let's see if I can finally get this thing to give me something a little more ambitious and useful. Time for a building.
mikewicked
Had a couple of failure runs a few weeks ago, which really dampened my enthusiasm for my new toy, but for some reason Verna's Candle in this month's Loot Studios drop really tickled me, so printed one off. Â had a couple of short painting sessions on it too - really happy with the base, but the candle itself needs work. (i'm also planning to reprint the candle - and hopefully make less of a dog's breakfast of the join...)
Jyggdrasil
Oooh - Nice! I do get jealous seeing the amazeballs stuff that people with resin rigs can manage, but my main goal is terrain items, so FDM for me.
Vargr
Nice work, mikewicked! I've been sorely tempted by this month's LOOT Studio fantasy bundle, after missing a few previous ones due to lack of hobby funds. Can you do me a favour and let me know what they charge for old monthly bundles (you have to be a current subscriber to find out, from what I've read)? Sure - Looks like it's $30 per old Loot set if you're a subscriber, or $60 if you're not. (not sure how to access non-sub store?) Sci-Fi loots are the same price. There's also a Viking Themed series, which contains 4x $30 sets, but can be bought as a single pack for $97 - i'm not exactly sure why this one is the only one with a mega-bundle. all in USD - and i'm not sure if GST gets applied on top of this price.
BIG
How do they control the use of their files? Is it time limited or once you buy them they are yours to use?

BIG
Ok so they are depending on people playing nice with there files.
Oceanborn
So far, yes From what I've been seeing in various places currently enough people are doing the right thing that there is limited pressure to somehow change things.

Thanks mate, that's very helpful. I might have to wait for Black Friday to pick up previous bundles, in case they have a sale like they did last year (34% off old bundles). Â I'll also have a good think about this bundle, it's competing for funds with a basing bits Kickstarter campaign I've got my eye on: Â Â
Jyggdrasil
And here is the latest off my 3D printer. The cross worked well, but for some reason the layer height went huge once it finished the base and started on the cross. Not a deal-breaker, I've hit it with some sandpaper and it's 'good enough for tabletop'. I also managed to snap the top off during removal/clean up, but some superglue sorted that out. As for the rock-pile, not so much a fail as that I simply ran out of PLA in the middle of the night. Disappointing, but salvageable. I'll make a little platform for the top out of coffee sticks, add a ladder down one side. All good, and I now have a journal to log my PLA use so hopefully I won't make the same mistake near the end of the new roll of PLA.
mikewicked
Another week, another random 3D printing side-project. this time, randomly came across the Vorpal Blade from the American McGee's Alice series of videogames, which i adore, so had to print it off to see how it looks. not sure how the pin will hold with only superglue, but feels ok for now, and it's not really going to see vigorous play, so *should* be fine. i do wish the designer had notched the part that slides into the handle, as by being round, there's a chance it's not at a perfect position, but on the whole, i'm pretty happy with it. plan is for a bright silver blade, which i'll wash with a black oil wash, and copper, with brown oil wash on the handle - which i'll clean up for some quick weathering. hopefully knock it off on the weekend.
mikewicked
and done: had a small issue when the blade started to bend when i put them outside to dry between colours, but was able to re-straighten them by leaving them outside again for a bit, then putting the blade between some heavy books to flatten them again. another reason to hate summer, i guess. 😛 also learned that microfiber cloths are not the best for removing oil washes - unfortunately left behind a few fibers, so sticking with sponge is the way to go. tried the clothes mostly due to the size of these pieces, as i didn't (and don't) have sponges large enough for this sort of cleanup, but if i do anything similar in future, i'll be sure to pick some up.
BIG
Look lovely, the blades in particular have a very realistic finish.
Jyggdrasil
...And now I've gone and sold my printer. Found out a few weeks ago that we are moving to Singapore. No way the Ender 5 is going to make that trip and even if it did it's not going to fit in the likely apartment. Ah well, got some $s I can spend on commission printing before I go, and I might see about getting a resin printer once we are over there and I get a better sense of the space I have to work with. Plasman
I HAVE JOINED THE CLUB 😄  Set up my ender 3 v 2 today, thank feck for youtubers. Got a Benchy printing right now!  Planning on doing some TT terrain, of course. Scatter terrain for 40k and fantasy ruins! Just have a load of free files for now, a bit daunting to see one fairly simple fantasy cottage stone ruin estimating 12 hours on low quality! Plasman
Now considering I didn't print preview this model after scaling it, so didn't actually check to see how many lines the printer was actually capable of doing for things like tiny gun barrels, this thing turned out insanely well. Three of the turrets ended up with barrels, and blocks of scaffold that looked solid yet cut away relatively easily, and it's just mindblowing to see the little details like the lighter boats sitting up high. We'll put down the mistakes on the superstructure to battle damage eh? Â
